SPEAKERS
Jerram
Barrs - Professor Jerram Barrs joined the faculty of
Covenant Theological Seminary in
St. Louis, MO in 1989. He serves there as Professor of Christian Studies and
Contemporary Culture and Resident Scholar of the Francis A. Schaeffer Institute.
He had spent the previous 18 years with L’Abri Fellowship in England, where he
also pastored in the International Presbyterian Church. Professor Barrs brings
to his teaching a special sensitivity toward those outside the Christian faith
and is in great demand as a speaker in the United States and abroad. Other
interests include the arts and literature. His publications include
Being Human, Shepherds and Sheep, Who Are the Peace-makers?,
The Great Rescue, and
The Heart of Evangelism, as well as the video series Building Up
Bridges, Breaking Down Walls. He is completing a book on Women of the Word
and an introduction to The Life and Writings of Francis Schaeffer. He is also in
the midst of a series of studies on the Book of Revelation. Professor Barrs
earned his BA, at the University of Manchester (England) and his MDiv, Covenant
Theological Seminary
Dr. John
Perkins - Dr. John M. Perkins and his family left a
"successful" life in California in 1960 to begin to minister among the poor for
the past 47 years. Despite dropping out of school in the third grade, John
Perkins has been recognized for his work by being awarded eight honorary
doctorates. Among his many accomplishments he is the Founder of Mendenhall
Ministries in Mendenhall, MS; Voice of Calvary Ministries in Jackson, MS;
Harambee Christian Family Center and Harambee Preparatory School in Pasadena,
CA. He is the Co-Founder and Chairman of
Christian Community Development Association. He started publishing URBAN
FAMILY Magazine which was discontinued at the untimely death of his son in 1998.
Dr. Perkins has formally served on the Board of Directors of World Vision,
Prison Fellowship, National Association of Evangelicals (NAE), Spring Arbor
College, and fifteen other boards. He is an international speaker and a teacher
on the issues of racial reconciliation, indigenous leadership development, and
community development.
Dr. Dan
Doriani - Dr. Daniel Doriani is Senior Pastor of
Central Presbyterian Church located in
Clayton, Missouri, in metropolitanSt. Louis. Prior to his return to the
pastorate, Dr. Doriani served as Dean of the Faculty, Vice President of
Academics, and Professor of New Testament at Covenant Theological Seminary in
St. Louis. He has twice served as Assistant Professor of Biblical Studies at
Geneva College. He filled the positions of pastor of Faith Presbyterian Church
of Cumberland, MD and theologian-in-residence at Kirk of the Hills in St. Louis.
Dr. Doriani earned a Ph.D. and M.Div. from Westminster Theological Seminary, an
S.T.M. from Yale University and a B.A. from Geneva College. He has twice been a
research fellow at Yale University. In addition he has written
seven books and speaks frequently at Christian conferences on topics such as
discipleship, Bible interpretation, family and gender issues, godly manhood, and
work. He enjoys music and sports and coached college tennis for two years. He
and his wife Deborah, a musician, have three daughters, Abigail, Sarah and Beth.
Dr. Nicholas
Venditti - Dr. Nicholas Venditti, is the International Director of
INSTE, Institute of Theology by Extension. He
was born to an Italian father and Puerto Rican mother, grew up in New York. He
studied literature and musicology at New York University (B.A., 1972). He went
to Spain in 1972. He enrolled in INSTE where he received his theological
training while ministering in evangelism in various churches in Spain. Nick and
Leona met at INSTE in Spain. In 1987 they were married and continue ministering
together in INSTE, collaborating on the revision of the INSTE books. Rev.
Venditti received his M.Div. in theology from Fuller Theological Seminary,
Pasadena, California (USA) in 1993. He received his Ph.D. from the School of
World Missions at Fuller Theological Seminary in June 1998.
Dr. W.
Franklyn Richardson - The Reverend Dr. W. Franklyn Richardson was born June
14, 1949 in Philadelphia. The Richardson family, was anchored in the church
during the pivotal 1950’s. He graduated from West Philadelphia high School in
1966 and enrolled in the Community College of Philadelphia. Soon, Dr. Richardson
enrolled in Virginia Union University in Richmond and by the age of 19 became
the full-time pastor of two churches in Richmond. He earned a B.A. degree with
honors from Virginia Union. Rev. Dr. Richardson earned masters and doctorate
degrees in theology from Yale University School of Divinity in New Haven, CT and
the United Theological Seminary in Dayton, OH, respectively. He served as the
spiritual head of Rising Mount Zion Baptist Church and St. James Baptist Church.
He served as pastor of both Rising Mount Zion and St. James Baptist Churches for
six years until 1974. He became Pastor of
Grace Baptist Church in 1975. As pastor of the historic Grace Baptist Church
in Mount Vernon, NY, Dr. Richardson leads the largest African American church in
Westchester Country, NY. He continues to guide and administer to the spiritual
needs of Grace’s more than 3,000 parishioners.
