News from the Summit
Saturday, April 27 2002
People spoke of being tired from all they had been doing in the Summit, and
here and there one could glimpse people finding a corner for a nap, but the
enthusiasm for the challenge, the learning, and the networking continued through
this final day of the Summit..
Highlights:
-- Curtis Dean and musicians from Nations Ford Community Church (Charlotte)
again led us in worship in the morning and evening services.
-- Philip Davis, the pastor of Nations Ford Community Church, presented the
second of two Bible studies with a powerful call to a new view of ourselves and
others.
-- The workshops and special interest groups were greatly appreciated, but there
was just as much appreciation for the personal interaction times during the
breaks and the meals.
-- We started the evening meeting seeing the video produced by the
Minneapolis/St. Paul Summit committee, inviting us all to Minnesota in 2003.
-- The Alberto Roubert family presented muscial praise in Spanish.
-- Peter Kravchuk, fomer soloist of the Latvian Opera House, presented a
powerful solo version of "Down from His Glory" in English and Russian then
"Shabbat Shalom," reflecting his desire to reach Russian Jews in the USA.
-- W. Dan Lee presented the "Religious Landscape of Ethnic Congregations." He
spoke of his delight in sky diving and noted it's the sort of thing one doesn't
do unless there is passion for it. He challenged us to allow our
passion to develop out of the theological foundation of God's work to make
one new people from many diverse peoples.
-- Moses Neumann called for the offering which was collected as the African
Choir sang.
-- Before Manuel Ortiz came to present his final message we were thrilled with
the ministry of a multi-ethnic combined choir led by Curtis Dean.
-- Manuel Ortiz began with Ephesians 2 to argue persuasively for racial
reconciliation.
